THIS ART WORK HAS A SIMILAR FEELING THAT I WOULD LIKE TO CONVEY WITH THE WAR MEMORIAL.  THE MEMORIAL IS TO BE AN ECONOMICAL STRUCTURE IN TERMS OF MINIMALIST CONSTRUCTION. REDUCED TO THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS , CONCENTRATING ON LIGHTING, SPACIAL RELATIONSHIPS MATERIALS AND FORM AS THOUGH SOME KIND OF WAR RATION WAS IMPOSED UPON THE DESIGNER AND ONLY THE VERY ESSENTIALS WERE ALLOWED. 





TYPOGRAPHIC ELEMENTS EMBEDDED IN THE CONCRETE FLOOR CAUSES THE VISITOR TO LOOK DOWN BOWING THE HEAD IN AN ACT OF HUMILITY IN ORDER TO READ THE TEXT AND TO UNDERSTAND THE SURFACE CHANGE UNDER FOOT (BALSA WOOD MODEL). PRECIDENT: PICTURE OF CARVED STONE IS FROM 'MYTHFORM' BY PAUL CARTER, IMAGE IS OF 'NEARAMNEW'AT FEDERATION SQUARE MELBOURNE.

CONTEMPORARY RUINS:  THE WAR MEMORIAL IS A PERFORATED CONCRETE SHELL THE HOLES ARE MADE AS THOUGH PIERCED BY STEEL ROUNDS FROM ABOVE HAVING EATEN AWAY AT THE VERY FLESH OF THE BUILDING LIKE A PLAGUE OF GIANT LOCUSTS.  THE BUILDING SITS AS AN ARTEFACT MUCH LIKE MAYA LIN DESCRIBES HER VIETNAM WAR MEMORIAL IN WASHINGTON AS A GIANT BOOK OF NAMES LEFT OUTDOORS.

THE ABOVE FORMS WERE GENERATED BY USING EXISTING BUILDING TYPOLOGIES AS BUILDING BLOCKS, THROUGH ROTATION, MANIPULATION OF SCALE AND MERGING PREVIOUS TYPES OF BUILDINGS, NEW FORMS ARE PRODUCED. 
ABOVE IS A WOOD BLOCK DIAGRAM OF THE EXISTING TYPES OF BUILDINGS PRESENT AT THE HSW SITE. 1) IS THE PITCHED ROOF PAVILION OF THE OLD WHARVES 2) IS A SMALL SQUARE GABLE TYPE BUILDING NEAR THE DOCKS 3 &4 ) ARE TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF CONCRETE AIR RAID SHELTERS CONSTRUCTED FOR WW2 LOCATED AT THE BANKS OF THE CLIFF. THE MATERIAL CHOICES AND FORMS OF THE ORIGINAL BUILDING TYPES ARE A POSSIBLE CATALYST IN CHOOSING MATERIALS AND FORMS FOR THE NEW WAR MUSEUM. 
FOLIE: THE ARTEFACT I CHOSE TO CONSTRUCT AT THE THRESHOLD OF THE SITE IS A FORM OF 'EMOTECTURE' A BOMB SHELTER FOR BROKEN HEARTS, A PLACE FOR CONTEMPLATION A CONCRETE BUNKER THAT INSTILS A FEELING OF SAFETY AND WARMTH IN AN OTHERWISE LONELY DESERTED SPACE. THE FORM AND MATERIAL CHOICES WERE AS A RESULT OF INVESTIGATING THE HISTORY OF THE SITE AND THE DISCOVERY OF THE WW2 AIR RAID SHELTERS NEAR THE CLIFFS. THE TOWER LOOKS OUT TO THE CALMING RIVER WATER AND FRAMES THE STORY BRIDGE.
